Subject: Paid internships at Iowa City Public Library
INTERNSHIPS AVAILABLE AT
IOWA CITY PUBLIC LIBRARY
FOR LIBRARY SCHOOL STUDENTS
Children's Services Intern:
Timeframe: Sept 10, 2001 - August 15, 2002
Hours: 10 hours per week during the school year, and 40 hours per week in
the summer. Will include some weekend hours.
Duties: Under supervision of the Childrens Services Coordinator, the
Intern will assist patrons at the Children's Room Reference Desk as a
second person during busy times of the day and on some weekends. Intern
will assist with the annual Summer Reading Program by registering children
and helping with special programs. The Intern may assist in planning and
performance of children's programs and outreach services as assigned.
Requirements: The Intern will be enrolled as a graduate student in Library
Science. Knowledge of childrens literature is required. Class work and/or
work experience with children in a school, library or day care setting is
preferred. Experience in storytelling or other recreational programs for
children is desirable.
Starting wage: $8.00/hour
Technical Services Intern:
Timeframe: August 27 - December 21, 2001
Hours: 5 to 10 hours per week, to be scheduled with supervisor
Duties: Under supervision of the Technical Services Coordinator, the
Intern will reclassify the music collection of books and AV materials from
Dewey 19 to Dewey 21 standards. May be assigned other reclassification,
recataloging, or name and subject authority control projects as appropriate.
Requirements: The Intern will be enrolled as a graduate student in Library
Science. Class work and/or work experience in cataloging and classifying
library materials and knowledge of AACR 2, MARC cataloging standards is
required.
Starting wage: $8/hour
