[slis] Scholarships for SLIS students
Three scholarships will be awarded this fall to students currently enrolled
as degree students in the School of Library & Information
Science:
1. Jack E. Tillson Scholarship - $1,000
2. Iowa Library Trustees Association Scholarship - $500
3. Dr. John Martin Scholarship - $1,000
Deadline for applications is FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 7, 5:00 P.M.
Eligibility and application procedures are given below. Please note that a
separate application is required for each award. We encourage you to

JACK E. TILLSON SCHOLARSHIP
A $1,000 scholarship will be awarded by the Iowa Library Association
Foundation to a graduate student in library and information science at The
University of Iowa. Applicant must be enrolled at least half-time (5
semester hours) and have a 3.25 grade point average or higher on his/her
undergraduate program or previous graduate study of 8 or more semester
hours. The winner will receive the award at the ILA fall conference
banquet in Davenport on October 11.
To apply: submit an application to the Iowa Library Association Foundation,
c/o Ethel Bloesch, 3087 LIB. Forms are available in 3087 Library, or
request that a form be placed in your mailbox or mailed to you (send
request to ethel-bloesch@uiowa.edu). Deadline: September 7.
IOWA LIBRARY TRUSTEES ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP
A $500 scholarship will be awarded to a library and information science
student planning to work in a public library. The winner will receive the
award at the fall conference of ILA in Davenport on October 11.
To apply: submit a letter of application, stating your career goals and a
summary of education and work experience, to the Iowa Library Trustees
Associaton, c/o Ethel Bloesch, 3087 LIB. Deadline: September 7.
DR. JOHN MARTIN SCHOLARSHIP
A $1,000 scholarship has been established to further the education of a
deserving student interested in the health sciences information network.
The applicant must be a new or continuing student regularly admitted to the
School of Library and Information Science at The University of Iowa and
must carry at least 9 hours of graduate credit during the 2001-02 academic
year. Criteria for selection: 1) Demonstrated interest in a career in
medical or science information services; 2) Academic excellence; 3)
Professional promise; 4) Financial need.
To apply: Submit a letter of application to the Scholarship Committee, 3087
LIB, giving particular emphasis to criteria 1 and 4. Supporting letters of
reference are welcome, but not required. Other evidences of career focus,
such as research papers, are also welcome. Deadline: September 7.
