Hello all,

The following was an email sent to me from Denise Britigan about the kick
off of the big fund raising event the Friends Foundation of the ICPL is
doing in support of the Library expansion.  This might be something we
could either get involved in or just go and see what it's all about.  Would
anyone object to having the picnic the following Saturday, the 29 of
September or should we just go ahead and schedule it for the afternoon of
the 22 and go to the dance that evening?  Let me know your thoughts and
thanks to the people who have responded!

Greetings!  My vote is for the 16th [even though I have plans from 11-3
that day already]......the Iowa City Public Library is having its big
"Reaching for New Heights" Kick-off (Fund raiser) on Sept. 22nd and it may
be fun to support that.  Here is the schedule of events. (Feel free to copy
if you decide it is something SLIS could include as a social time...and it
fits in nicely with our Non-Profit class, too )

 1-5 pm  Information table open / Display of decorated hard hats
 1-4 pm  Construction wall painting (Maybe SLIS could do a panel ourselves)
 2-4 pm  Celebrity Climb at Planet X and Literary Scavenger Hunt  (SLIS could
 make a team)
 6:30-8:30 Swing Dance on the Plaza
 8:30-9:30 "Beyond the Summit"  a video presentation by Dr. Chuck Huss;
highlights of his recent climbs                     on Mt. Everest

 So, that is my opinion....I think we could really have a lot of fun and
get SLIS noticed at the same time.----Denise
