Resisting McCarthyism, 1948-1955."
 
Professor Jenkins teaches and has published widely in the areas of 
intellectual freedom, gender issues, children's and young adult 
literature and services, reading practices and library and 
information science history and foundations.

Timothy Barrett
Director, University of Iowa Center for the Book.

"Book Studies at the University of Iowa?"

Tim Barrett's career in hand papermaking changed substantially when 
he became the director of this nationally known program in book arts 
and academic book studies in 1996.  His talk will focus on the 
Center's aspirations and accomplishments during the last 5 years, 
with an analysis of the UI administration's recent conclusion to a 
major review of the potential for book studies at the University of 
Iowa. The UI Center houses specialized classrooms and production 
facilities for papermaking, letterpress printing and bookbinding.  In 
addition, over 40 faculty from a wide range of traditional 
disciplines have allied interests in the role of the book in society 
and culture.   The talk will be illustrated with slides and a display 
of handmade papers, fine press books and artist's books.
