Our backyard garden in Seabrook, Texas

Here's a picture of the garden in early September of 1994, about a year and a half after it's initial construction. The major additions after this picture was a set of trellises along the back fence supporting a variety of antique (and rather robust...) roses and an arbor supporting another pair of antique roses that we built into the side fence just behind the banana (next to the house) in this picture - you can see the gap in the fence if you look close enough.

Here it is as of early September 1996. The angle's not the best - I was trying to get as near to the same perspective as the original shot, so things look a little lush... It's actually reasonably open, with the gravel walks now bordered by a variety of lantana, monkey grass, etc. We managed to harvest one hand of bananas last summer, but frost this last winter did in my hopes for a crop two years in a row. The maple on the left has begun to generate a little bit of shade and the non-climbing rose on the right has definitely disproven the comments in the Texas Rose Emporium's catalog about a 5' x 5' habit. The loose clump of green at the bottom of the 10/94 picture is the same plant...
