Literacy As A Human Right
As society’s needs evolved, literacy became a universal right.
In 1959, the United Nation’s Declaration on the Rights of the Child: Principle 7 declared that the child is entitled to receive free and compulsory education, at least in the elementary stages.
The scope of literacy has widened from the religious and scholarly elite to include the whole population.
