Development course
Course description:
Collection development and management;
acquisitions in libraries and information
centers;
principles, policies, procedures specific
to various settings
and applicable to print and electronic
resources
for internal collection, external information
access.
Course objectives:
Study the concept of collection development
and the principles and practices which
govern
the selection of materials in a variety
of libraries and information centers.
Familiarize students with the tools used
to select
all types of library materials,
Demonstrate and exemplify the variety of
materials
acquired by modern libraries and information
centers,
including both monographs and periodicals,
selected for ownership or access,
in traditional, audio-visual and electronic
formats.
Describe and evaluate techniques for evaluating
and maintaining collections and selecting
materials to be discarded.
Analyze and compare collection development
policies
adopted by different libraries and information
centers.
