PORTFOLIO
Foundations
of Library and Information Science
Summer
2001
Students are expected to set up personal
portfolios on their own web pages.
They should include:
personal mission statement
resume
annotated links to library science resources
discussion of at least four relevant readings
"mailto" e-mail link to the student responsible
appropriate background
some graphics
date modified
indication of software used: Netscape
Composer /
Microsoft Front Page / Dream Weaver etc.
copyright or similar statement
It should be clear that the web site is
by a student
The portfolio should be maintained during
the period students spend in the SLIS;
courses taken should be listed and
suitable work should be continually made
available via these web pages.
Finalization of the portfolio may possibly
form the basis of future Capstone courses.
Content should be of a professional level;
remember that a good portfolio will improve
chances of employment.
The portfolio will also be consulted by
SLIS faculty
when immediate information on students
is required.
Portfolios should be systematically organized
and easy to consult
Personal information:
students are not required to reveal
personal information in their web portfolios:
Omit social security and other identification
numbers;
Date of birth can also be omitted.
If you prefer you can give the SLIS address
and phone number,
instead of your home address and number.
Most students will want to include their
photographs on their sites,
but this is not a requirement.
It is common to include in a portfolio
or resume a separate section
outlining non-professional activities:
hobbies, sports, family, pets, etc.
This probably to the benefit of candidates,
as it offers a more rounded view of their
personality,
but it is not a requirement.
