PORTFOLIO
PRACTICUM IN LIBRARIES
AND INFORMATION CENTERS

Students are expected to set up personal portfolios on their own web pages.
They should include:
personal mission statement
resume
annotated links to library science resources
discussion of relevant readings
"mailto" e-mail link to the student responsible
appropriate background
some graphics
date modified
indication of software used: Netscape Composer /
Microsoft Front Page / Dream Weaver etc.
copyright or similar statement
It should be clear that the author of the web site is a student
List of courses taken
Links to suitable coursework
Portfolios should be systematically organized and easy to consult

Content should be of a professional level,
so as to improve chances of employment.

Personal information:
students are not required to reveal personal information in their web portfolios:
Omit social security and other identification numbers;
Date of birth can also be omitted.
If you prefer you can give the SLIS address and phone number,
instead of your home address and number.
Most students will want to include their
photographs and e-mail addresses on their sites,
but this is not a requirement.

It is common to include in a portfolio or resume a separate section
outlining non-professional activities:
hobbies, sports, family, pets, etc.
This probably to the benefit of candidates,
as it offers a more rounded view of their personality,
but it is not a requirement.
