On October 20th, 2005 I organized a Vampire Blood Drive for the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Patients' Library with the DeGowin Blood Center in the hospital's first floor Atrium. A book cart was available with Halloween themed books and materials, as well as plenty of informational bookmarks and Harry Potter coloring book for the kids. We provided a laptop with internet access to promote the library's internet access. Volunteers attended the blood drive throughout the day in costume and handed out candy (including chocolate and gummy body parts). There was festive Halloween music, and plenty of decorations. The objective in co-sponsoring the Blood Drive was to increase awareness of the Patients' Library's services to staff and patient's who may not make it up to visit.
